3 Warning Signs That Signal A Gas Leak

Today I’d like to share three different ways that you can identify a gas leak in and around your home or neighborhood. Keep a close eye out for these things, especially in winter:

1. Dead grass or dead plants.

I’m not talking about plants or grass that die off when it’s cold. I’m talking about a random spot where you see a dead patch of grass that looks out of place. There’s a photo with a good example of what I’m talking about at the 0:27 mark in the video above.

2. Hissing sounds.

Any hissing sounds that are out of the ordinary or sound like they are coming from a high-pressure area should be checked out immediately.

3. Bad smell.

We’re not talking about a personal gas leak here, so it’s not that kind of smell. A lot of people have described the smell of a gas leak as something they’ve never smelt before. Others say it smells just like rotten eggs. Whatever the case may be, give us a call right away. If you can’t get a hold of us, give your gas company a call.

If you’re someone who wants to figure out for yourself if a leak is happening, take a sponge with soapy water and wipe it over the pipe where you think the leak is coming from. If there is one, it will bubble up like the photo at the 1:15 mark in the video above. Then we can come out and take care of the rest for you.
