What 3 Tips Can Keep Your Home’s Pipes From Freezing This Winter?

Here are the top three tips you need to know in order to prevent your home’s pipes from freezing this winter:

1. Drip your faucets. This is especially important when it gets below freezing overnight. Pull back the levers slightly on your bathroom and kitchen sink faucets and allow the water to circulate through your pipes so it’s not sitting stagnant. Anything from a small drip to a steady stream is ideal. If you have a two-handle faucet, turn both of them on and let the hot and cold water drip.

2. Wrap and insulate any exposed exterior piping. If you have any exposed water lines, whether they’re for a hose bib or they’re feeding your house directly, wrap them in pipe insulation.

3. Cover any hose bibs with an outdoor cover. You can find the outdoor cover we use in the video above at any home improvement store. Leave it covered until the average temperature rises above freezing again.

If you have any more questions about how to winterize your home’s pipes, don’t hesitate to give us a call or shoot us an email. We’d be glad to help you.
